1st Wargrave win cooking competition

District competitions

- There are 6 annual competitions between all the Scout troops in Loddon, with points towards an overall trophy ("Murray Plate")

2011-12 events

Cooking Competition - winners - 1st Wargrave Scouts

With entries from 9 different troops, the cooking competition was once again a hard fraught affair (and every team produced a menu I'd have been happy to polish off in a restaurant!). But despite some very close scores for the minor placings, 1st Wargrave won by a comfortable margin with their "Diamond Jubilee" menu.

10-pin Bowling - winners - 5th Woodley Scouts - Grenfell troop

134 Scouts descended on Hollywood Bowl in Bracknell for the biggest ever district bowling competition, with scores made up from the best 6 individuals in each troop. In a very close competition, the 5th Woodley Grenfell troop egded out 1st Hurst by a mere 5 points with a grand total of 651.

Great Breakfast Chase - joint winners 1st Wargrave & 3rd Woodley Scouts

On a dark October evening, almost 100 Scouts and Explorers made up 18 teams who set out from Bradfield (including some in the wrong direction!) for the annual night incident hike. After 6 miles, 4 incident bases, 1 soup kitchen and far too many hours, all the teams had returned safely. So after a good(?) nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, the results were announced and amazingly 3 teams had tied for 1st place, so well done to the "Quebec" and "Juliet" teams from 1st Wargrave and "Echo" from 3rd Woodley, who all shared this year's trophy.

Raft Race - joint winners 1st Sonning & 5th Woodley Darwin troop

With Black Swan Lake (Hurst) almost as still as a mill pond, Sunday 3rd July 2011 proved to be an ideal date for the annual raft race. This year the standard from all 8 troops who took part was excellent, with fantastic pioneering skills and not a single barrel coming loose during the race! Congratulations to all took part and had a lot of fun.

Camping Challenge - winners - 3rd Woodley

A sunny, but windy, May weekend saw the patrols battle their camping skills at Bears Rails campsite. In addition to the teams being self sufficient in terms of organising their sites and cooking meals, a number of activities were laid on, from backwoods fire lighting to balister making. With Sunday culminating in the making of (and then racing over) a pioneered assault course. All the troops who took part showed good skills, but 3rd (Woodley) proved to be a step ahead of the rest.

2010-11 events

5-a-side fo

otball - winners - 5th Woodley Scouts - Grenfell troop

8 teams engaged in a hard fought, but very fairly played, tournament with goal difference required to decide the group stages. After two close semi finals, Grenfell met Sonning in the final but the teams couldn't be separated with a 2-2 draw at full time, so penalties were required and with both teams still level after 5 penalties, a further 2 sudden death kick were required before Grenfell achieved the accolade of "golden boots" for Loddon district.

Future dates: Football March TBC, Camping Challenge 12-13/5/12, Raft race 1/7/12
